Laboratories that work with hazardous materials should consider keeping a small chemical spill kit on hand.  Universal Spill Response Kits can be ordered from Fisher Scientific (click here for an example kit) and other safety supply vendors. These kits can typically be used for most chemicals, but there are exceptions, such as HF and concentrated sulfuric acid. The manufacturer instructions will specify any limitations.

Section X: Chemical Spills of Penn’s Chemical Hygiene Plan provides guidance on when it is appropriate for a lab to clean up a spill and how to do it safely. EHRS can provide assistance with the clean-up of any larger or hazardous spill.
