All work with recombinant or synthetic Nucleic Acids (r∙s∙NA) must comply with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules. Registration forms for r∙s∙NA work must be submitted to the Penn Insititutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) for review and approval.

  • Download and complete the registration forms using Microsoft Word. Handwritten forms are unacceptable and will be returned.

  • A signature must be provided by the Principal Investigator. You may use an official digital signature or a hand-written written signature. A typed-in name does not constitute an acceptable signature.

  • All training must be complete before registrations and amendments can be approved. Personnel handling rsNA materials must complete the following:

    • Penn Profiler is required annually

    • Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Guidelines training is required every 3 years (available in Knowledge Link)

  • If you require guidance for filling out the Penn r∙s∙NA registration form please contact a Biosafety Officer at 215-898-4453.

  • Completed forms can be submitted electronically to ehrsappr@ehrs.upenn.edu for review and approval by the IBC.
