Dear Research Community,

To ensure the utmost safety for lab personnel, ULAR staff, and our research animals, to address a series of recent incidents of exposure, and to bring the University’s training program in line with accepted training standards at peer institutions, the IACUC is mandating a new online course for all rodent anesthesia users – Rodent Anesthesia Fundamentals Module.

This course will be required to be taken every three years by those approved on or being added to IACUC protocols utilizing gas or injectable anesthesia in mice and/or rats.

The goals of the course are to educate users on:

  • Safety considerations when using anesthesia
  • Proper administration, monitoring, maintenance and recovery from gas and injectable anesthesia
  • Proper set up of anesthesia equipment

The course will take approximately 30 minutes or less to complete in its entirety.

Those who are proficient in anesthesia principles can test out of content by going directly to the quiz at the end of the course.

This course will be automatically assigned to current anesthesia users via Workday Learning.  You can directly access the course by searching for the course title “Rodent Anesthesia Fundamentals Module” in Workday Learning or by clicking the hyperlink above. If you have any problems with the course, please contact the ULAR Training Division.

Thank you.
