hot plates

Penn has secured special pricing through Fisher Scientific for a flexible, feature-rich magnetic stir plate.  See full announcement for additional details and how to place your order.

In May 2021, EHRS and Penn's Office of Risk Management & Insurance conducted a survey to assess the risk exposure posed by hot plates, combination heat-stir plates, and stir-only magnetic stir plates. This was initiated following the investigation of a fire involving the misuse of a combination heat-stir plate at BRB II/III in January 2021.

The results of this survey indicated that there is a significant need for additional stir-only magnetic stir plates to comply with the following lab safety requirement:

**Use stir-only plates whenever heat is not required.**

(The use of combination heat-stir plates for stir-only applications has been the cause of multiple fires at Penn. This lab safety requirement and the documentation of these incidents can be found here: https://ehrs.upenn.edu/health-safety/lab-safety/safety-alerts-and-faqs/h...)

Working with Penn's Purchasing Department, we have secured special pricing through Fisher Scientific for a flexible, feature-rich magnetic stir plate. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this offer so that you have sufficient stir-only devices to comply with the above requirement. Compliance with this requirement will reduce the risk to your lab, its personnel and research, your neighbors, and the institution at large.
