Safety Notice: Recent Reports of Damaged Chemical Shipments of Peracetic Acid from Sigma Aldrich

EHRS has been notified of recent incidents involving the receipt of damaged or leaking chemicals. Specifically, Sigma Aldrich Product 269336 (Peracetic Acid – https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/US/en/sds/sigald/269336) was received on two separate occasions with no visible damage or contamination on the outer shipping container.

Although the internal bottles remained sealed and appeared to be in good condition, a significant amount of free liquid was found inside the inner protective bag; see above photo. The source of the release was not immediately apparent.

Please remember: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)—including lab attire, safety glasses, and gloves—when handling chemical packages, even when there are no obvious signs of damage.

If you receive a chemical shipment in a similar condition:

1. Immediately move the entire container (including the packaging) into the nearest chemical fume hood.

2. Contact EHRS at (215) 898-4453 to report the incident and inform your lab associates.

3. Notify the vendor to report the issue.

EHRS will investigate the situation and document findings with photos and relevant details to assist with resolution.

Thank you for your attention to this important safety matter.
